When we think food safety, we think cleaning and sanitizing floors, conveyors, walls, equipment and all other food contact and non-food contact surfaces but what about floor drains?

Often overlooked, floor drains are one of the main areas of concern in a food plant. A number of pathogenic microorganisms can be found, particularly Listeria, Salmonella, and Escherichia coli.

A first line of defense to control contamination should be the use of a solid sanitizer. A quaternary puck that is placed onto the ring of the drain will slowly dissolve as water passes over it offering a 24-7 sanitation action. The puck will also help reduce build-up between cleanings by emulsifying soil deposits.
